Business Studies Teacher
MPR (Salary according to expertise and experience)
At TTC we aim to develop each student's understanding of the practices that businesses use on a day-to-day basis and to widen their understanding of the world around them. Students will develop their ability to be innovative and creative, whilst improving their skills in team work, communication and problem solving. Students are encouraged to be enterprising, adopting a "can do" attitude and to develop the confidence to communicate effectively. Whilst the department prides itself on excellent examination results, it also realizes the value of hard-working, committed students who achieve their potential
For students who are keen to learn the theoretical background to businesses and how they operate, at KS4 we offer BTEC Business Certificate. The course consists mainly of portfolio work but for the first time next year there is a Finance unit assessed through examination. One optional unit "Starting a small business" requires students to set up and run, as a class, their own business and complete a business plan for this.
In the Sixth Form we currently offer six courses which are BTEC Subsidiary Diploma, BTEC Diploma, 'AS' and 'A' level Business Studies and 'AS' and 'A' level Economics. We have outstanding results for 'A' level Business Studies (ALPS 2), BTEC Business (ALPS 2) and Economics is a new course this year. We currently have one group of both Business and Economics in Year 12 but the real growth area of the department is BTEC Business level 3 where we have three large classes. We also offer a combined Business and ICT course at Level 2 for sixth formers.
As an extra-curricular activity the department offers all sixth form students the opportunity of joining the Young Enterprise scheme whereby the students can set up and run their own professional company, taking part in trade fairs and competitions. The College has been very successful with Young Enterprise, winning the local area finals 12 times out of 17; the County Finals 7 times and the East of England one year. Also, we were 4th in the National Finals three years ago.
The department prides itself on its excellent examination success for all its courses from BTEC to 'A' level with a team of excellent teachers and resources, and all students are encouraged to maximize their potential. Also the department provides outstanding training alongside the college training programme which have enabled departments members to often gain promotions.
We are looking to appoint an outstanding or potential to be outstanding teacher of Business with high expectations, strong classroom management skills and good subject knowledge. You should have a vibrant personality and be prepared to continually develop your skills to ensure enjoyment and rigour in the classroom. We have a strong team ethos and are looking for a like-minded person to join the department at an exciting time of its development. We would warmly welcome and encourage applications from Newly Qualified Teachers.
