Teacher of Drama

Full time, however, we would also consider part time, but working over 5 days for this academic year, followed by working 3 days from September 2025.

St John's is a co-educational independent school for pupils ages between two and sixteen years. We are proud of our educational provision and offer you the opportunity to join our successful school. We are looking for an enthusiastic, adaptable and qualified teacher of Drama.

The Drama teacher will work alongside other departments including Music and Art, as part of a friendly, supportive and successful team who bring enthusiasm to the delivery of their subjects. Drama is currently taught in the school from years 7 through to year 11. The right candidate will have the ambition and desire to play a significant role in the further development of the department to include lessons in years 5 and 6.

The department has achieved excellent GCSE results, and the school currently follows the AQA GCSE Drama Syllabus. The candidate will also need to have a flexible approach and the willingness and the ability to teach Key Stage 2 Drama if necessary.

What we are looking for:

  • An experienced and qualified teacher with an excellent subject knowledge, holding QTS and a relevant undergraduate degree to deliver Drama lessons at KS3 level and KS4 level plus some KS2 lessons.
  • A committed practitioner who wants to attain the highest standards in teaching and learning and who expects excellence from students.
  • An enthusiastic, collaborative and motivated individual who will teach the subject though a variety of innovative approaches in a way that develops confidence amongst our pupils.
  • A strong team player who forms excellent relationships with staff, parents and students.
  • A teacher who will be prepared to showcase the talents of our pupils at school productions.
  • A teacher who is a positive role model for our pupils.
  • A teacher with excellent communication skills.
  • A teacher who is willing to be a form tutor to a group of Senior pupils

We offer:

  • The chance to be part of a supportive and friendly team.
  • Fantastic working environment where staff are valued.
  • Polite and hard-working pupils taught in small classes.
  • Opportunities to access CPD to develop your role further.
  • A school lunch is provided.
  • Our school terms are shorter than those of the maintained schools.

Our timetable is set for the next academic year, and this is currently a full time position over five working days, however, we are willing to discuss a part time option from September, but please note that this would require the successful candidate to work part time over five working days. Subject to the completion of a successful initial probationary year, this will become a permanent position. After this, if preferred, the role could become a part time position working over three days.

For further information about the role, please contact Amy Fleming by email a.fleming@stjohnsschool.net.

Start date - As soon as possible, ideally September 2024 but a later start date will be considered.

Closing date - Tuesday 20th August 2024

Interviews: Week commencing 16th September
