Job Title: Early Years Practitioner
Responsible to: Management Team
Responsible for: Children within room or across whole setting
Purpose of the job: To work as a key person and as part of the nursery team under the direction of the management team to provide safe, high-quality education and care for young children. To maintain a stimulating and enjoyable environment.
Main Duties:
1. To assist with planning of the curriculum and individual child's planning.
2. To help set-up the playrooms for the daily programmes and to help tidy away at the end of the session, ensuring all toys and equipment are clean and safe at all times.
3. To act as a key person to a small group of children, liaising closely with parents / carers and ensuring each child's needs are recognised and met.
4. To encourage and reward children's efforts.
5. To set boundaries for the children and follow the practice for the settings behaviour policy.
6. To attend to every child's needs including health and hygiene procedures
7. To ensure Equal Opportunities practices are followed in accordance with the settings policy.
8. Ensure your key worker children's files and planning are kept up to date.
9. To advise the management team of any concerns e.g., over children, child protection, behaviour, parents / carers, staff or the safety of equipment and children, preserving confidentiality as necessary.
10. To be aware of any special needs a child may have and familiarise oneself with relevant learning plans.
11. To teach children, offering an appropriate level of support and stimulation.
12. To attend staff meetings
13. To communicate with children appropriately
14. To attend training courses and meetings as required
15. To keep completely confidential any information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is acquired as part of the job as well as being trustworthy and reliable.
16. To keep up to date with current good practices as well as policies and procedures within the setting
17. To work as part of a team
18. To keep nursery clean, tidy, and hygienic at all times
19. Have pride in your work, your own appearance and be a positive role model for the children.
20. To build and encourage good manners and relationships.
21. To have partnership with parents
22. Ensure the safety of the children is paramount and ratios are always maintained.
23. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the management team, in accordance with the nurseries policies and procedures.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Applicants must be prepared to disclose any convictions they may have and any orders which have been made against them.
Person Specification
Essential criteria
Willingness to learn.
An enhanced DBS check which confirms suitability to work with children.
Experience of working with young children
Commitment to diversity and equal opportunities

Health clearance for the role
Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
Good communication skills awareness
