The Head Teacher is responsible for the operational leadership and internal management of Doucecroft School. Accountable to the Chief Executive, they will provide the highest standards of professional leadership and strategic direction in order to develop the school. Whilst supporting and nurturing a team of highly skilled professionals to ensure the highest possible quality of specialist education for all learners.

Through the demonstration of high quality education and personalised student-centred outcomes, the Head Teacher will ensure that the services provided by Doucecroft School are 'first choice' of those seeking such a service.

Location: Doucecroft School, Eight Ash Green, Colchester, CO6

Salary:Competitive (dependent on experience)

Hours:Hours as required,Monday to Friday, 39 weeks per annum plus training days

Contract Type:Permanent

The role:

  • Be responsible for the operational management of the school, ensuring that the ethos and core values of the education of students are always adhered to in line with Autism Anglia values.
  • Working in close partnership and under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer and Governors and draw up the School Development Plan and implement the objectives within the resources available.
  • Lead the process of self-evaluation with reference to the current inspection framework.
  • Ensure that the school has all the necessary policies and procedures in place, and these are implemented and regularly reviewed.
  • Ensure compliance with all Independent School Standards and Regulations.
  • Work closely with the Chief Executive to continue to drive the school forward.
  • Create a culture and provide an educational and social vision that secures effective teaching, high-quality support and therapeutic interventions, above average predicted student achievement and effective preparation for adult life.
  • Ensure that management, finance, organisation and administration of the school services support the vision for both school services and the wider overall Strategic Plan for Autism Anglia.
  • Act as the lead professional for all safeguarding and child protection practice and training.
  • Support all school staff to fulfill their responsibilities by providing personal and professional development.

  • Extensive experience as a senior leader in a specialist school for pupils with complex communication needs
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Undergraduate Degree
  • Qualification/training in special education
  • Team Teach
  • Qualifications specific to teaching children with Autism

Doucecroft School is a specialist co-educational school for children and young people with autism and additional complex needs, age 3 –19 years. Established in 1977, we are experienced and successful in meeting the needs of students with wide-ranging strengths and needs, providing a nurturing environment where students are able to thrive and grow in independence and self-esteem.

Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy are provided on-site by our experienced therapy team.

Doucecroft School is part of Autism Anglia, a regional charity working with children, adults and families affected by Autism.
