Job Title: Family Liaison and Pastoral Care Officer


Hours: 27.5 hours a week Mon - Fri 8.30am - 12pm and 1pm-3pm


Pay Grade: 2023 Scale 5 points 9-12 £25,119 - £26,421 FTE - actual salary £15,575 - £16,383

Reports to: Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher


Liaison with: Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher, SENDCO, Teaching Staff, Support staff, Office staff, Governors, Parents, Pupils, External Agencies,


Purpose of the job: To provide effective management of attendance & maintain the welfare and pastoral support of students.This post will support the school in all matters relating to attendance, student welfare, behaviour and child protection issues. There will therefore be extensive involvement with senior staff and with parents.


Duties: Attendance

  • Monitor the attendance of all pupils and implement strategies to improve attendance and punctuality to meet school targets.
  • Contact parents to arrange and conduct meetings where a pattern of persistent absence emerges.

  • Liaise with the Headteacher regarding absence requests.
  • Prepare details for parental fines or legal cases regarding attendance in conjunction with EWO service where appropriate.

Pastoral

  • Support the pastoral needs of individual pupils as they arise which could relate to; bereavement, parental split, anxiety, etc
  • Be present daily at the school gate to support families where pupils may have difficulties transitioning into school.
  • Liaise with other pastoral members of staff and senior leaders to support pupils.
  • Liaise with external services where appropriate.

Safeguarding

  • To make referrals and liaise regularly with Social Services regarding child protection matters, organising and attending PEP, TAF and core group meetings, attending child protection meetings and feeding back regarding pupil educational needs.
  • Managing our online child protection system (CPOMS).
  • Actioning CPOMS incidents as agreed with DSL.
  • Liaise with DSL / DDSL around continued child protection matters.

Welfare

  • Ensure the students welfare needs are met so that students feel safe and secure in school
  • To provide support for assisting students who are exhibiting difficult, aggressive and distressing behaviour.
  • To support targeted pupils during their lunch period to support their wellbeing.
  • To administer first aid to pupils as required, in keeping with the school's policy.
  • To assist with the general welfare of pupils

Family Liaison

  • Act as the primary point of contact for parents, ensuring clear, consistent and compassionate communication regarding wellbeing matters.
  • Establish and maintain positive links between the school and parents / carers in parenting or eliciting outside support for them to do so.
  • To liaise with parents and alternative provision services to ensure the educational and pastoral needs of pupils are met.
  • To plan and deliver a range of practical school-based workshops for parents / carers to support them with parenting skills, analysing the impact of such support or elicit support from external agencies.

General

  • To participate in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for identification of learning, development and training opportunities in discussion with line manager.
  • To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health and safety in the workplace.
  • To ensure that all duties and services provided are in accordance with the school's equal opportunities policy.

Qualifications & Experience

Specific qualifications & experience: Successful experience working with children in a school/early years environment. NVQ Level 3 in learning support/early years or equivalent qualification/experience

Knowledge of relevant policies and procedures: Good knowledge of appropriate procedures, regulations and guidance.

Knowledge of First Aid

Literacy:NVQ level 3 or equivalent in English.
Numeracy: NVQ level 3 or equivalent in Maths
Technology:Good working knowledge of ICT to support learning and for administrative/ organisational effectiveness


Communication

Written: Ability to write detailed reports, complete returns and write complex letters
Verbal:Ability to use clear language to communicate information unambiguously. Ability to listen effectively

Languages:Specialist language/communication skills if appropriate

Negotiating:Ability to negotiate effectively with adults and children


Behaviour Management

Ability to demonstrate effective implementation of the school's behaviour management policy
SEN
Successful completion of training to support SEN if appropriate

Ability to demonstrate effective strategies to achieve inclusion of pupils at risk of social exclusion


Curriculum
Good understanding of the school organisation, timetable and learning and pastoral support systems


Child Development
Good understanding of child development and pastoral issues such as inclusion and transition

Understand and support the importance of physical and emotional wellbeing
