Job Title: Director for SEND

Salary / salary range: L9-L14 Commensurate with experience

Hylands School is seeking to appoint a dynamic Director for SEND to support, motivate and inspire students and staff alike.
The position requires the candidate to have a real passion for securing excellent outcomes for the SEND students through highly effective management and leadership. You will be an excellent qualified teacher with the ability to inspire and develop others and have a proven track record of raising educational standards, with the drive and commitment to maintain and improve the current success rate. Whilst this role would suit an experienced SENDCO, we would consider applicants who wish to be supported in their training to become qualified. Salary would be commensurate with experience.
We are looking for an inspiring practitioner who can articulate and implement vision, and create an environment where our teachers are empowered to be amazing.
Essential
- An excellent communicator who is able to work effectively with all stakeholders
- An ambitious approach to supporting students at all levels with a problem solving can do attitude which builds on the strengths of the students and the school
- A qualified teacher with experience of class teaching in the primary or secondary sector
- Working knowledge of national/foundation stage curriculum and other relevant learning programmes/strategies.
- Understanding of principles of child development and learning processes.
- Understanding the importance of effective safeguarding within the role
- Experience of team leadership and an understanding of how various roles within a school work together to ensure best practice
Desirable
- National Qualification for SEN
- Experience of working within an SEN team preferably as SENDCo or other leader of provision
- Training in supporting young people with Autism and other high profile needs
- Experience of working within a leadership role in a school
- An understanding of the role of the DSL and behaviour lead in order to work alongside these professionals with an understanding of the holistic approach often required for support
- Full working knowledge of relevant policies/codes of practice and awareness of relevant legislation.
