Hours initially 1.30pm to 3.20pm Monday to Friday
Old Heath Community Primary School is seeking to appoint an experienced Learning Support Assistant to work as part of a team with a small group of children with complex ASD in 'The Den'. This is a developing provision for children where the mainstream classroom is not an appropriate learning environment for the individual child's needs. We have both an indoor learning environment and an outdoor space that has been specifically revamped. In the long term we will be looking to extend hours through the lunch and into the morning.
This is a fixed term contract attached to specific children whilst they remain in the school, should any child move before the end of this academic year, we are expecting a level of need in the new Early Years class in September 2025, so there may be opportunities to extend contracts for September 2025.
Ideally we would like to appoint someone who:
- has experience of supporting children with little or no language; possibly experience of Makaton or PECS
- enjoys encouraging children to develop their play and engage positively in their surroundings
- has experience of managing and supporting children with dysregulation
- is able to work as part of a small team working closely together and has good communication skills
- shows initiative and can be flexible
- is happy to provide intimate care and support children with developing toileting skills.
