Helena Romanes School is looking to appoint a professional, self-motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the school team as part of the SEND department as a Reading Champion. The successful candidate will work both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups, to support and assist students 11 - 16 years old with their reading fluency and comprehension. As an all-through school with a primary phase, there may also be opportunity to work with our younger students, and this role might suit someone looking to develop their experience working with both primary and secondary students.
They will work closely with the librarian, literacy co-coordinators and the Assistant Headteacher who oversees the literacy programme to deliver interventions, celebrate the student achievements and develop strong links with parents and carers. We have an ambitious reading programme which has three strands - learning to
read, reading to learn and reading for pleasure.
It is an exciting time to join Helena Romanes School as we have a new building commissioned by the DfE and the prospect of moving into state-of-the-art new premises is on the horizon. The primary phase is scheduled to move in the academic year 2025-26 with the secondary phase not long afterwards.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about literacy education and will be able to tailor their approach to reading, to suit individual needs in a way that inspires students to achieve their full potential. We want to ensure that the needs of all our students are met to motivate and inspire them to fulfil their potential. At Helena Romanes School, every child is valued for their individuality and we are committed to giving them the tools they need to succeed.
