DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN

Salary: Scale 4 Pt 7-8 (£20,827.42 - £21,177.20) actual salary per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.

A recruitment incentive payment could be available.

Hours: 37 hours per week term time only (39 weeks per year)

Start Date: 01 September 2024

This is a full-time position but candidates able to offer slightly fewer hours would be considered.

We are looking to recruit a new technician to join our team. The successful applicant will play a key role in delivering engaging and exciting practical DT activities as part of a wider Design Technology Department team.

The Design Technology Department at King Edward VI Grammar School (KEGS) comprises 4 teachers and 1 technician. The team are friendly and hardworking and are looking forward to welcoming an enthusiastic new colleague to join them.

The postholder will, in the main, be required to provide support to the teaching staff in the Design Technology department, completion of mandatory Health and Safety checks, preparation of materials for use by the students in advance of lessons, supporting students and teaching staff during lesson delivery, supporting all computer aided manufacturing (CAM) especially the use and maintenance of the laser cutter and 3D printer, maintenance and inventory of tools and materials and ensuring the learning environment is clean and tidy throughout the day.The successful applicant will have good organisational, planning and time management skills. Previous experience in one of the following areas is essential: CAD/CAM, electronics, wood working (circular saw, bandsaw, planer thicknesser), metal working (casting, centre lathe, bench top mill).

Information about the School

King Edward VI Grammar School is a selective boys' state school with a mixed Sixth Form and an exceptional academic and extra-curricular reputation based in Chelmsford. As a school specifically providing specialist education to very able young people, there is a strong focus on academic achievement, with the vast majority of students (both those boys who join in Year 7, and students, including girls, who join for the sixth form) going on to top universities. There is a serious work ethic at KEGS which derives from highly motivated students and dedicated staff. Recent results have put us near the top of national GCSE and A level rankings, and 23 students who left us in Summer 2019 gained places at Oxford or Cambridge and a further 23 went on to study medicine at university. However, league tables are not our guiding principle – we value breadth of study as well. We also focus significant effort on the progress of students who may find a particular subject area more challenging than others, and we have an extensive programme of mentor support.
