Collingwood Primary School has an exciting opportunity for a Learning Support Assistant to join our fantastic team asap.

The successful candidate will work 1:1 with children with specific educational needs as well as providing general class support. You will be working closely with the Class Teacher, SENCo and Outside agencies and professionals.

This post is on a fixed term contract linked to a specific child.

Part-time, support for a pupil with SEND Job Description

Grade:Scale 3 point 5-6 (£12.18 - £12.39) per hour depending on experience

Responsible to:Headteacher, Class Teacher, (SENCO as line manager)

Purpose of Job:To work in partnership with LSAs, class teachers, SENCO and the child's parents to support learning in line with the national curriculum, codes of practice and school policies and agreed procedures. To provide support as appropriate to the pupils' individual needs and self-esteem.

Hours:Monday - Friday, 8.50am - 3.20pm inclusive, totalling 16 hrs 40 minutes per week for the mornings, then 10 hrs 50 minutes per week for the afternoons, plus 5 hours for lunch.

Please note: It is expected that this post would be shared by 2 or more applicants as the hours include lunchtimes. How these hours are split is negotiable.

Interview Date:Interviews expected to take place the following week.

Start Date: Expected to commence the first week after October half term.

In the event of funds ceasing or one or more of the children leaving the school, this appointment will cease with at least one week's notice. These positions are subject to changes to hours dependent on the child's changing needs.

Duties and responsibilities

To provide particular and skilled support to a named pupil. This role will include assisted handling and intimate care. Training will be provided;
To monitor the pupil's specific needs and implement agreed Medical Care, Intimate Care and Education, Health and Care Plans;
To implement advice from professionals such as the physiotherapist, occupational therapist and speech and language therapists and attend specific training as requested by the SENDCo, taking proactive responsibility for your own development;
To establish a positive trusting relationship with the named pupils and parents and keep in daily contact;
To prepare for and contribute to meetings as required and share information with colleagues as appropriate;
To promote the inclusion of children with SEND at all times;
To ensure that the pupil can fully access an age appropriate curriculum by responding promptly, carrying out any adaptations required, promoting independence, including working with other pupils and observing from a distance where appropriate;
To carefully consider the pupils emotional well-being so that they continue to develop their self-esteem and resilience;
To carry out and record assessment of learning under the direction of the class teacher;
To escort the pupil on educational visits ensuring that relevant resources are taken and adaptations made.

General:

To understand and apply school policies in relation to health, safety and welfare for all pupils.
Attend relevant school meetings as required
To respect confidentiality at all times and adhere to school's "Code of Conduct" which includes use of social networks outside work, "Core Values" and "Behaviour" and "Safeguarding" policies and national "Keeping Children Safe in Education" and PREVENT Radicalisation policies
To participate in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for identification of learning, development and training opportunities in discussion with line manager (SENCO).
To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health & safety in the workplace
