Deputy Manager - Caterpillars Preschool Marks Tey
Caterpillars Pre-school have an exciting opportunity for a Deputy Manager to join our highly experienced team. We are looking for a qualified practitioner with a minimum level 3 childcare qualification (full & relevant)
Caterpillars Marks Tey is now located in its own building in the grounds of St Andrews School, Mandeville Road Marks Tey. We are open Monday to Thursday term time only. The hours for this role will be 27 per week (Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 8:30am-3pm & 8:30-4pm on Wednesday which will include attendance at the weekly team meeting).

The hourly rate for this post will be between £12.70-£13.00 per hour subject to experience. Additional pay will be given each month to complete learning journeys for any key children allocated to you.
Uniform items will be provided.
This role requires a strong but calm individual, and the main responsibilities will be;
• Assist the Manager in providing effective day to day management of the pre-school
• To deputise for the Manager and have overall management responsibility for the setting in the absence of the Manager.
• Assist the Manager in planning and training
• To be responsible for the delivery of all tasks delegated by the Manager
• Work with and support the management committee
• To ensure a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care and development for children at Caterpillars
• To work as part of a team in order to provide an enabling environment in which all individual children can play, learn and develop.
• Support the Manager in Ofsted compliance and inspections.
• To work with the Manager and SENCo to identify the physical, emotional, intellectual and developmental needs of children with special needs and offer support and relevant developmental opportunities.
• Build an excellent, supportive partnership with parents/carers and other family members.
• Ensure that all aspects of the Statutory Framework for Early Years Foundation Stage and Welfare requirements are delivered to the highest standard.
• Liaise with the Local authority and other professionals associated with the Preschool.
• Undertake certain domestic duties within the Preschool, i.e. preparation of snacks, cleansing of equipment, cleaning.
• Complete the half termly newsletter
• Ensure the completion and return of funding forms from parents each term
• Ensure that duties are delegated fairly and in an effective and timely manner
• Be a positive role model at all times, show enthusiasm and willingness to participate in all jobs.
• To adhere to the Preschool's policies and procedures and to take on lead responsibility for Health and Safety in the setting.
• Develop resources, being creative and imaginative
• To be a key person to a group of children.
• To assist with the planning and implementation of the curriculum with age-appropriate and stimulating activities to ensure that the children's learning and development needs are met.
• Assist the Manager to ensure that staff sickness and training absences are adequately covered, ensuring that ratios are met at all times.
• Attend staff, committee meetings and training sessions (this can be outside working hours)
• Undertake other adhoc duties as may be requested by the Manager.
Experience & Qualifications
• The ideal candidate must be trained to at least a level 3 qualification that is full and relevant.
• Experience of leadership desirable
• Evidence of ongoing personal development training and a desire to continue with professional development.
• Hold a current and updated DBS.
• First aid and food hygiene desired but not a requirement.
• Have a good IT skills/knowledge including internet, email, Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).

Information about the School
Caterpillars is a successful committee-run preschool which has 2 settings. One which has been based in the grounds of Birch Primary School since 2009 and the second setting in Marks Tey which from September 2024 is now based at St. Andrew's CofE Primary School in Mandeville Road.
Caterpillars is thriving with both Marks Tey and Birch settings having been graded Outstanding by Ofsted over its past 3 inspections. Caterpillars enjoys excellent parental support, a dedicated and hardworking team of staff and a well attended committee. Our whole ethos and focus is to provide the best environment we can for the children and we whole heartedly support our staff in achieving this.
