Job Title : Pre-school Practitioner
Responsible to : Pre-school Directors
Responsible for : Preschool children and the safety of bothchildren.
Purpose of the job : To provide cover when needed for any preschool practitioner who is off.
Main duties :
1. To be responsible for providing a high quality of teaching and learning, ensuring that ratios are maintained (we are all accountable for checking we are within ratio within our areas and that all areas are monitored) and offering appropriate stimulation and support to the children.
2. Follow the daily plans and rotas (with tasks specified), and participate in activities and events.
3. To be responsible for implementing systems of observation and record keeping so that children's progress and achievements are effectively and regularly assessed.
4. To be aware of all safeguarding issues and to ensure that any child protection concerns are acted upon immediately and appropriately, and to complete the safeguarding Level 2 course on the ESCB Website.
5. To ensure that you keep all preschool staff and children safe, which means that if broken equipment is noticed it is thrown away. All equipment is stored safely and is in a clean condition and have awareness of the fire drill procedures.
6. To participate in staff appraisals and to identify any personal training needs.
7. To ensure records are properly maintained, which includes children's observations, incident and accident records etc.
8. To liaise with other professionals and/or preschool directors as necessary to ensure that all legal statutory requirements are implemented and to provide reports as required.
9. To contribute to and implement all pre-school policies and procedures, being continuously aware of your continued commitment to maintaining confidentiality and equal opportunities.
10. To attend in-service training and meetings as required.
11. To undertake any other reasonable duties asstated by a director.
NB: This position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Applicants for this post must be prepared to disclose any convictions they may have and any orders which have been made against them.
Person specification:
Essential criteria
- Hold a CACHE Level 2 or Level 3 in Pre-school Practice, NVQ Level 2 or 3 or equivalent that is present on the government qualification checker website.
- Proven experience of working with children aged 2 to 5 years of age.
- Agree to complete an enhanced DBS check which will confirm suitability to work with children.
- Need a sound understanding of child development and of children's needs.
- The ability to plan and implement for children with regard to the Early Years Foundation Stage, taking into account the SEN Code of Practice, child protection procedures, and equal opportunity considerations.
- Have the ability and commitment to work with parents and to encourage their involvement.
- To deliver high-quality standards of care and education to each individual.
- Commitment to, and have an understanding of, diversity and equality.
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative; to be able to work calmly under pressure.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people.
- Demonstrate professionalism in approach to managing all issues.
- Ability to write objective observations.
- Thorough knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage, demonstrates that you can witness the development stages in play.
- Ability to write clear reports.
- To have a friendly and flexible approach.
