As the new Orsett Heath Academy continues to grow, we are looking to recruit and appoint an efficient and organised Science Technician to join our friendly and supportive team. This post is suitable for candidates with technician experience, as well as those wishing to gain experience within a school science department for the first time. Ideally candidates will have a Chemistry, Physics and/or Biology background but this is not essential as training will be given.

The successful candidate will provide effective support to teaching staff within the Science Department, operating both independently and as part of a team, within agreed procedures and timescales, and maintaining productive working relationships with both colleagues and students.

As a science technician, your tasks include:

Preparing, setting up and checking equipment
Supporting teaching staff and students during lessons
Team-working with other technicians
Putting away and cleaning equipment after lessons
Ensuring a safe environment
Organising and storing equipment and checking stock
Repairing, maintaining and modifying equipment
Administrative tasks

Why Orsett Heath Academy?

Orsett Heath is a relatively new thriving mixed 11-16 comprehensive school. As a new school, we opened our doors to welcome our first pupils in 2020. Since then, the school has proved popular with parents and pupils and we are oversubscribed in all three current year groups. We have created a successful school that pupils and staff are incredibly proud of.

In the summer of 2024, we move into our new £37m school building adjacent to our current purpose-built accommodation at Thurrock Rugby Club. When full, the new building will have 1200 pupils and be amongst the largest in Thurrock. We are looking for highly motivated, talented and ambitious staff who share our inclusive ethos and who want to help us grow over the coming years.
