As a governor you would have the opportunity to contribute to the overall management of the school.

Working with a team of other governors, you would help to ensure that the school is doing all it can to provide the best possible education for all children-

both in terms of the direct teaching and learning but also by ensuring a good provision of resources, activities, opportunities and a positive, safe, learning environment.

The Governing Body meets once each half term. Each term, one meeting is face to face in the daytime and one meeting is online via Teams in the evening. As part of their monitoring function, it is hoped that all governors will also plan and make visits to the school in order that they can report on their link area / classes. These can often be scheduled alongside the daytime full Governing Body Meetings each term. All training is provided throught the school's governor training program and it is expected that all governors will take part in this training. Opporturnities for further training and Information is available through membership with National Governance Association which is provided to all governors by the school.

The term of office for a parent governor is 2 years and 4 years for co-opted governors. No formal qualifications are required and you do not need to be an education expert.

Core Functions
The main role of the Governing Body and all governors is to:

* set the vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school

* challenge teaching and learning

* oversee the school finances and premise management

Personal Attributes

* a strong commitment and enthusiasm for the role and to improving outcomes for all children

* the inquisitiveness to question and analyse, and

* the willingness to learn

* It is also hoped that governors will use those personal or professional skills which they bring to the role to assist in moving the school forward.

Woodcroft Nursery School is a maintained nursery school providing funded educational services for 2-5 year olds. Our dedicated and experienced team comprises of qualified teachers, nursery nurses and nursery practitioners. We have extensive indoor and outdoor facilities including Forest School. We offer a range of extended services including breakfast and after school clubs.
