SEN Learning Support Assistant

Start September 2024

Fixed term to 31st August 2025 (subject to SEN Funding)

26.25 hours per week

39 weeks per year (term time inclusive of INSET days)

Scale 3, Point range 5 to 6

Actual salary between £14,894 and £15,133 (does not include pay award due 1st April 2024)

We are seeking to appoint a caring individual to support a child with complex needs. You would be required to support the child with their needs in order to enable them to access and participate in school life and make educational progress. The role would also involve working with other children in the class setting. You must be able to demonstrate your ability to act on your own initiative and work within a team. You will need to be able to understand individual needs and follow advice and plans from specialists.

You will need to:

  • Have gained GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths
  • Experience of working with children with SEND is desirable, e.g. NVQ in Learning Support, but full training for the specific position will be provided
  • Be a positive, supportive and caring practitioner
  • Have very high expectations for learning and behaviour
  • Have the ability to work as part as a team, be flexible, solutions focused and good humoured
  • Be knowledgeable of child development

It is also desirable for you to have:

  • Level 2 or 3 teaching assistant qualification
  • At least 2 years of experience working in a school
  • Experience of adapting the curriculum for pupils with SEND
  • Knowledge of successful strategies to engage pupils with specific and significant needs

Dr Walker’s Church of England Primary School is a small village Voluntary Controlled community school, in the heart of Fyfield, Ongar. We might be small, but have a lot to offer!

We are a creative school, where pupils are supported to become the best they can be. Pupils access the curriculum through additional fun activities such as dressing up days, hatching ducks, circus workshops, visiting zoo, residentials, initiatives, etc. and where appropriate participation in sporting events with local schools. Our school website evidences all our fun activities in the weekly newsletters (do have a look at how we are having fun, whilst learning!).
