We are looking for an Assistant Librarian who can provide an efficient and effective library service for the School.


Reporting to the Senior Librarian you will promote a wide range of reading opportunities and interact with pupils and staff who share an enthusiasm for learning.


About The Role:

As a confident communicator, you will bring a positive approach to:

  • Issue library books and maintain computerised/manual library records
  • Implement procedures for recovery of overdue and/or non-returned books
  • Catalogue and prepare new books
  • Repair damaged books and other resources as appropriate
  • Collect and record money e.g. for lost book, photocopying
  • Maintain stock, including researching resource availability, processing orders, recording purchases and losses etc.
  • Assist with management of 'overdues' and book returns
  • Maintain a tidy and accessible resource centre including production and arrangement of relevant displays, notices etc.

About You:

  • A creative thinker who understand the importance of a Library within a school setting
  • Enthusiasm about education
  • Comfortable working with bespoke software systems and Microsoft Office
  • Experience in a clerical or similar role
  • Excellent communication skills with both adults and children

  • Hours: 7 hours per week (10.30 - 14.00 on Thursday and Friday) Term-time only
  • Duration: Permanent
  • Location: Based on site within the school.
  • Remuneration: The Essex Schools' Local Government Scale 3, Point 5 (within ranges 5-6). FTE £24,790 gross per annum, actual £4,020 gross per annum. Figures include an element of holiday pay.
