Required for September 2025

NOR: 1070

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational, enthusiastic and committed Teacher of Technology to join a well-led, friendly and supportive team. Applications are welcome from both experienced teachers and more recently qualified members of the profession, able to teach throughout the age and ability range. Candidates specialising in any area of the subject will be considered. The department currently offers Textiles, Hospitality & Catering, Food Preparation & Nutrition, Graphics and Applied Engineering at KS4, but we are also seeking to introduce two new courses in Product Design and are always open to broadening our curriculum further. The school provides an excellent induction for ECTs and would be able to support you through your first two years under the Early Career Framework. A commitment to raising standards and forming positive relationships with young people is essential.

These are exciting times at Alec Hunter, since our November 2022 Ofsted inspection confirmed that the school continues to be 'good', with the report noting that "Staff morale is high. They feel valued by (the) leadership team (and)… like many pupils, enjoy being part of Alec Hunter Academy". This vacancy arises due to the fact that we are now a growing, heavily oversubscribed school, and therefore keen to recruit a team member who will make a strong contribution to our vision for Technology as a high-quality department, inspiring our young people to pursue further education and careers in STEM.

Alec Hunter Academy is a mixed 11-16 comprehensive school with an established reputation as a welcoming learning community with a positive, harmonious atmosphere and a strong focus on staff wellbeing. As a member of the Saffron Academy Trust, we work in close partnership with a small family of schools in north-west Essex, including Saffron Walden County High, one of the highest performing schools in the county. Numerous opportunities for professional development exist through this partnership and our membership of several local networks.

Our school is committed to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. This includes online checks for shortlisted candidates - you can read more about this in our Recruitment and Selection Policy Statement. A Disclosure and Barring Service check at an enhanced level will be required for this post. If you would like to visit the school prior to making an application, please do not hesitate to contact us to arrange this.

All appointments are subject to safer recruitment requirements to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people. All positions will involve appropriate checks and clearances.
