SEN Learning Support Assistant
Salary: Thurrock Band B Point 7-12
(£16,794.69 - £18,190.82 actual salary per annum)
28 hours and 45 minutes per week
8:40am - 3:10pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break and a 15 minute unpaid break
37 weeks of the year - term time only
Start Date: 22nd April 2025
Fixed term until 31.08.26
A new opportunity has arisen, for a SEN Learning Support Assistant to join our successful team supporting students in the classroom environment, to assist student learning and improve educational outcomes.
We are seeking to appoint a SEN Learning Support Assistant who has experience, or an interest, in supporting children with special educational needs. You will have a passion for working with pupils and assisting them on their journey. You will need to have an understanding of the subjects that you support the children in, be able to demonstrate a fair attitude and apply rules consistently. You will be resilient and have excellent de-escalation skills. The ideal candidate will be able to nurture support relationships and be able to demonstrate a practical, hands-on approach to supporting teaching. In addition to this, you will be required to assist the children during lunchtime.
The candidates will preferably have relevant NVQ qualifications or equivalent. They must have a good standard of English and Mathematics and basic computer skills. Previous experience is desirable.
· Experience or interest in supporting pupils with a range of needs e.g. Asperger's, Autism,
ADHD, speech and / or language difficulties.
· Experience of working with children with challenging behaviour
· Knowledge of successful strategies to engage pupils with specific and significant needs
· Flexible and adaptable with timetabling and the daily routines
· Excellent communication skills
· Ability to liaise with parents and relevant staff
· Personal Care
· Strong behaviour management skills
This position will involve:
· Confidently supporting physical demands & dysregulation and carry out training
· Supporting pupils, to ensure they are engaged in learning activities
· Promoting the inclusion and acceptance of all students within the classroom
Acting as a role model, setting high expectations of conduct and promoting positive pupil behaviour, to create a safe and inclusive learning environment
· Providing feedback to the classroom teacher on the pupil's progress against lesson plans, the conduct of the lesson and keeping pupil-related records
· Dealing with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the school's policies and procedures about health & safety, welfare and wellbeing and safeguarding
· Providing additional support to the teachers in the classrooms,
· Establishing positive relationships with the pupils in lessons being covered

East Tilbury Primary School is located in the heart of East Tilbury, near the town centre, a short distance from the train station, which is on the C2C Line between Shoeburyness and Fenchurch Street Station. Parking is available on-site and there are good transport links by both rail and bus. East Tilbury Primary School is just over nine miles from the M25.

East Tilbury Primary School & Nursery converted to Academy Status in April 2012 as a partner in St Cleres Co-operative Academy Trust. We are a three/four form entry school in a semi-rural location, only a 5 minute walk from East Tilbury Station which is on the C2C Fenchurch - Shoeburyness Line. .
