The Role

At an exciting time in Philip Morant School and College's journey we are looking to appoint an outstanding and inspirational Subject Leader for Design and Technology. Computing is part of our Design and Technology subject area and we are ideally looking for a teacher who can fulfil the Subject Leader role and teach computing.

The position will suit an experienced teacher with some experience of Subject Leadership. Do you believe that there are no limits to student achievement? If so, why not consider joining our school and make a real difference to our young people.

The technology department has been recently refurbished with three food rooms, a new purpose built multi use room, four existing workshops and a computer room shared across the department. Further refurbishment takes place this year of 4 workshops. Computing is delivered in specialist rooms with access to software required for the delivery of the curriculum.

This position covers the planning, delivery and coordination of the curriculum in the areas of Product Design, Graphics, Engineering and Computing. This includes developing the key stage 3 content to ensure it is equipping students with the skills and knowledge to progress into the courses offered in key stage four and in the future key stage five. This position will also include line management of the department Technician.

We are looking for someone who can play a key part in achieving outstanding outcomes and progressing the subjects to delivery at key stage 5 as part of our Sigma Sixth provision.

Some of your key responsibilities will include:

  • The effective leadership, development and management of an appropriately broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum which is ambitious for all students and is in line with the school's Curriculum principles.
  • The effective leadership, development, delivery and monitoring of High Quality Teaching strategies and approaches, including the Development of Reading, as appropriate to the subject, in line with the school's HQT and Extra Help principles.
  • The effective leadership, management and monitoring of assessment for learning approaches and reporting procedures within the department, in line with the school's Assessment for Learning principles.
  • The leadership of relevant approaches and provision of opportunities within the department that contribute to the personal development and wellbeing of students.

  • Qualified Teacher Status
  • Ability to teach "outstanding" lessons in Design and Technology
  • Ability to develop and implement a high quality broad and balanced curriculum
  • A proven track record in monitoring and improving student attainment
  • A passion for teaching, developing and training staff within the curriculum area and making a real difference to young people
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
