We are looking for an enthusiastic, positive, confident and caring people who will enjoy the rewards and challenges of working with children. Our Midday Assistants act as a valuable part of our team to create a positive, happy and secure environment in our playground, field and dining hall.

The successful applicant will assist with the supervision of the lunch period, ensuring the safety, welfare and good conduct of our children; they will be organised, punctual and reliable and will play a proactive role in leading and supporting the children's play activities at lunchtime.

Duties will include:

  • supervising children in the lunch hall, classrooms and the playground/field
  • securing the safety, welfare and good conduct of the pupils during the lunchtime break
  • interacting with children to encourage good social skills
  • leading games with the children and encouraging group games
  • helping children to develop friendships and to resolve issues with each other
  • encouraging healthy eating
  • maintaining good order and discipline of pupils
  • administering first aid if required
  • help with clearing the dining hall away
  • implementing the Safeguarding and Behaviour Management Policy consistently.

(A First Aid qualification would be an advantage.)

Hours: 11.55am - 1.10pm (equates to 6 hours and 15 minutes per week), 5 days a week, 38 weeks per year (term time only).

Our school is located in the beautiful village of Wivenhoe, on the outskirts of Colchester. Our pupils are aged 7-11, ranging from Year 3 to Year 6, and mainly live in the area surrounding the school. At Broomgrove Junior School, we want our children to be happy, confident, articulate and ambitious and to share a passion for learning. We value every child and ensure that we foster the individuality of their interests and experiences. We have recently set up our own in-school enhanced provision for children with moderate and severe learning difficulties and we are proud of our inclusive ethos. We are very proud of the achievements of our pupils and this pride is echoed by the children themselves. We have a team of committed, supportive and friendly staff who strive to ensure that our children reach their full potential within a warm and caring school community.

Information about the School

Broomgrove Junior School is a two-form entry school with eight classes catering for children aged 7-11 yrs. The school was opened in 1971 and shares its site with Broomgrove Infant School.

The school is proud to call itself ‘inclusive’ and aims to make provision for the needs of every individual child.

The school participates in many local community events such as the Colchester Fire Swim, Wivenhoe Open Gardens, and the choir sing regularly at the parish church on special occasions. The school is also hired out in the evenings to several local groups including the Colne Bank School of Dance.

Along with other local Primary and Junior schools, Broomgrove Junior School has strong links with the Colne Community School and College in Brightlingsea, the local secondary school. This includes participation in music and sporting events, and specific festivals organised by the Colne for their linked schools. Within this cluster of schools, training is shared by both staff and governors. The Mid Tendring Education Partnership provides many traded services which support the school in a variety of ways.
