Site Manager

Hours: 35 hours a week during term time (and working three weeks during school holidays)

Start date: As soon as possible

Salary: Scale 4 Pt 7

We are looking for a dynamic, reliable and motivated person to contribute to the smooth running of our school. This person will undertake the security, caretaking and maintenance of our school premises. Experience of caretaking and/or building maintenance is preferable but not essential. With the varied daily demands of a school, it is vital you are able to demonstrate a flexible approach, remain calm under pressure and manage your working hours effectively. We are seeking a hard-working, committed, intuitive and enthusiastic individual to join our supportive and collaborative team.
This is no ordinary job. It is an opportunity to be an integral member of the school community and to really make a difference to the school environment. Ultimately, the successful candidate will be responsible for the safe operation, statutory compliance and general maintenance of the school.
The post is for 35 hours a week over a split shift, including unlocking and locking up. The hours would be 7am till 10:30am then 2:30pm till 6pm during term time. It would also include three weeks during school holidays.

The role includes: monitoring the site; carrying out statutory duties (including fire safety, legionella checks and asbestos awareness); maintenance/DIY skills; cleaning; decorating, keeping the grounds clear and safe and potentially other skills such as carpentry/plumbing. The successful candidate will also supervise a small team of cleaners and will liaise with contractors.

Ideally, you will possess an awareness of COSHH, Safe Manual Handling practices and Health & Safety and have prior experience of working within a similar setting. (Although, this is not essential and training will be provided.)

A full driving licence and use of your own car is essential as you may be required to attend the school outside of normal working hours.

Our pupils are aged 7-11, ranging from Year 3 to Year 6, and mainly live in the area surrounding the school. Information about the School

Broomgrove Junior School is a two-form entry school with eight classes catering for children aged 7-11 yrs. The school was opened in 1971 and shares its site with Broomgrove Infant School.

The school is proud to call itself ‘inclusive’ and aims to make provision for the needs of every individual child.

The school participates in many local community events such as the Colchester Fire Swim, Wivenhoe Open Gardens, and the choir sing regularly at the parish church on special occasions. The school is also hired out in the evenings to several local groups including the Colne Bank School of Dance.

Along with other local Primary and Junior schools, Broomgrove Junior School has strong links with the Colne Community School and College in Brightlingsea, the local secondary school. This includes participation in music and sporting events, and specific festivals organised by the Colne for their linked schools. Within this cluster of schools, training is shared by both staff and governors. The Mid Tendring Education Partnership provides many traded services which support the school in a variety of ways.
